ABOUT

Hi there! My name is Mimi Ottavi, and I'm a highly motivated marketing and communications specialist based in Dubuque, Iowa. Throughout my academic and professional careers, I've had the privilege of working in a diverse range of industries, from film to insurance to academia. Most recently, I operated as the communications coordinator for the Center for Social Science Innovation, formerly the Public Policy Center, at the University of Iowa.

In 2020, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Clarke University, earning my bachelor's degree in communication with a minor in writing. There, I completed my capstone, "Relatable Content: A look inside the genre of infotainment and the foundations of native advertising." In 2022—motivated by my passion for the field and deep-rooted love of learning—I decided to pursue my master's degree at Drake University, graduating on an accelerated track in 2023 and being granted the honor of membership in Kappa Tau Alpha, a national honors society that recognizes academic excellence in mass communication and journalism.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and dog, record shopping, and completing the New York Times mini crossword. I dance (badly) to ABBA, love singing along to Jim Croce, and am always ecstatic to shoot on whatever kind of film camera I can find.

  • Spearheaded the web content revision, creation, and redesign of the Public Policy Center's website within the bounds of the University of Iowa's brand standards to suit the organization's transition to their new brand, the Center for Social Science Innovation

  • Developed, edited, and published written material for the center, including impactful news stories, print content, social media posts, and program materials.

  • Curated and managed the center's ongoing content calendar to maintain digital visibility and increase engagement across relevant audiences.
